About the School
Background
St. Paul Dual Language Academy is an Archdiocesan Catholic elementary school that educates girls and boys in transitional kindergarten through eighth grade. St. Paul Academy is proud that it is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and the Western Catholic Educational Association.
Located in the historic West Adams district in Mid-City Los Angeles, St. Paul Academy has changed accordingly to serve the local population. Currently, the student body draws mainly from nearby South Los Angeles communities and is approximately 85% Latino, with the remainder primarily composed of African Americans and Pacific Islanders.
Since 1922, St. Paul has been a place of faith, hope, and opportunity for thousands of young students. Today, that tradition continues with highly qualified teachers and administrators, bright and enthusiastic students, affiliations with some of Los Angeles' top universities, and families committed to seeing their children succeed. We are proud that St. Paul graduates are accomplished individuals who go on to study at the high schools of their choice.
History
St. Paul Dual Language Academy was built in 1922 by the parishioners of St. Paul. For many years, St. Paul served grades 1 through 8, and in 2008, a full-day Kindergarten class was added. In 2017-2018, the school incorporated its signature Dual Language Immersion program. The following year, the school was renamed St. Paul Dual Language Academy to reflect its new mission and purpose.
St. Paul's stakeholders have diverse ethnic backgrounds. However, the community is composed mostly of Spanish-speaking and African-American populations. We are located near downtown Los Angeles, Korean Town, and the Wilshire area, off the I-10 Freeway on the Crenshaw exit. Although St. Paul Academy is in an urban location, its campus is quiet, tucked safely behind St. Paul church in an enclosed area.
St. Paul Dual Language Academy is a fully accredited WASC and NCEA school. The school itself is a two-story building that houses 10 rooms. St. Paul also has a full-time Title I reading program on-site for our students. The school shares a large parking lot with the church, parish hall, and parish office, allowing the children to attend monthly mass and other church functions efficiently. This close proximity also allows us to foster our relationship to become a more united community.
